The Open Community Theatre is an annual theatre camp for kids in fifth grade and older, or ten years and up! We are dedicated to providing a fun theatre experience for the kids in the company and audiences, through a focus on theatre education. Every summer we hold a three-week improv camp. And we are excited to make this available for our sixth year! WOW!
Most importantly, we have fun – a key component of providing quality theatrical experiences. Much of the work we do is on display on stage at our end of camp performances. One of our goals is for the audience to enjoy watching as much as we, and our camp team, enjoy creating it. Gaby DesVaux-Saxton and our camp counselors bring over twenty years of theatre education experience as well as a philosophy of learning that involves hands on application and practical production experience. We also believe in the philosophy of an open education which allows students to learn at their own pace, make personal choices in their learning, and collaborate with others on projects and activities. This student-centered approach is an integral part of our theatre camp.
